Recycling is BS

Pretty radical statement in the title, eh? Well... that's because it's true, for the most part.
State your evidence, you say? That's good, that's what you should demand. That's exactly what I thought when I first saw Penn & Teller's Bullshit episode on recycling. Just as they do on all of their Bullshit episodes, they gave good evidence of their argument and showed the stupidity of people who disagree with their point of view, in a very humorous way. They also conduct semi-scientific experiments to show the how the average citizen falls for some real bullshit:
Most of their episodes are on YouTube, so I highly suggest you watch a few and get educated.

Things that are Bullshit (Things that I currently agree with Penn & Teller about):
-Feng Shui
-Profanity
-Gun Control
-Recycling
-Creationism
-Alternative Medicine
-End of the World
-Bottled Water
-Talking to the Dead

Things that I disagree with Penn & Teller about:
-Secondhand Smoke*

*They recently retracted their claim that secondhand smoke was a bunch of bullshit upon the discovery of new evidence.

Basically, they're never wrong. Although I already knew many of these things were bullshit before watching their show, the way they present their arguments just makes me more of a believer (in the bullshit-ness) I highly recommend watching their show however you can get your hands on it, particularly the episodes on Feng Shui, Gun Control, and Profanity.

__

I guess its time for the weekly post...

In case you haven't heard yet... (which probably means you don't care) HD-DVD is dead. And in case you bought an HD-DVD player... there's practically nothing you can do about your useless piece of hardware. But maybe.... you could move to Japan and trade up to Blu-Ray.

Anyone watch America's Best Dance Crew? I know... sounds lame. All the dance crew's are lame, except for these two:
1) JabbaWockeeZ

2) Kaba Modern

I'm willing to bet money that one of these two groups will win. Simple as that.

Hmmmm

So naturally, being such a fan of rap and hip-hop, I was bound to run into this song:
and at first, I thought, alright cool... but then I realized something... listen to this one at about 47 seconds in...
Hmmm... what are the odds that there would be two songs about flashlights? or flashing lights for that matter. The odds are too slim to be a coincidence... (seriously, I haven't actually figured out what Kanye's talking about (something about police lights?) or what Röyksopp is talking about (I think they're actually talking about real flashlights...) but it just seems like more than a coincidence)

Oh boy, remember this song from awhile back:

Hmm...
I know huh... brilliant detective work. Don't get offended, I know Kanye didn't copy this song and it was a collaboration or whatever.  I just find it quite... irksome (look it up) when people hear some song that "samples" another and don't realize that their genius artist sampled another song. Or what's worse is when they think the original is the copycat...argh.
Here's another offender:

Hmmm... where have I heard that before?
Omg... that's where... from the 80's! (and these guys are actually singing the lyrics to a song from the 60's!)
And this could quite possibly be the most annoying case:
Hmmmm...
Whoa whoa whoa... I know what you're thinking: "Who are these white guys mimicking the Federation? That's not even that clever... they just changed stunna glasses to sunglasses... although I'll give them some credit for building that time machine to send them back in time to make this in the 80's... Nice move Corey Hart..."
It's not so much the fact that most songs nowadays sample other songs, it's just the fact that people totally diss the classics. What kills me is when people ask: "Wow, is this a remix?" to the original song...

However, I'm pretty sure these are all legitimate samples. Except the first example... those are probably not related at all.  It was just a complete coincidence that I was listening to Röyksopp on the first day that I heard that Kanye song and I thought they were similar, but they weren't really.
Oh, and here's a classic case of sampling gone bad:

Hmmmm....

So just to recap:

Kanye West - Flashing Lights vs. Röyksopp - What Else is There (not really)

Kanye West - Stronger vs. Daft Punk - Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger (blatant, but with permission)

Rihanna - S.O.S. vs. Soft Cell - Tainted Love (with permission)

Federation - I Wear My Stunna Glasses at Night vs. Corey Hart - I Wear My Sunglasses at Night (seriously, these titles are actually only 3 letters off, which out of a 24 letters, that's only a 16% difference... This might as well be called a cover)

Vanilla Ice - Ice Ice Baby vs. Queen - Under Pressure (totally illegal and he got caught bad. and his career pretty much ended... but then he got to go on VH1's Surreal Life... so, totally worth it)

Oh how can I possibly forget this song:

Hah! You just got RickRoll'd!
So anyways, if you know of any other current songs that sampled songs from the past, let me know.

(BTW, here's how to type umlauts (which are these: ö ü))

What a scam

Ever have one of those teachers that makes you think, "I could teach better than this guy"? Well... Maybe its because... he never learned to read... This just shows how messed up our educational system is. But I have to say, the fact that he was able to cheat his way to a bachelor's degree is quite impressive, and shows some real American ingenuity.
I think I know a couple teacher's who can't read...

I Hate Titles.

I just thought I'd share two of my favorite time wasters with you all.
If you guys like turret defense games, then this site should be an obvious add to your bookmarks. Too many games and too little time. Have fun getting no more work done... ever. Sorry.
And here's another one of my favorite sites. It's a webcomic, here's a little taste:

Click it if u can't read the text, stupid.
Updated daily at Saturday Morning Breakfast Cereal

And actually, while writing this post, this commercial caught my attention:

It was mostly the ghostbusters part that actually made me turn around and watch the trailer. Be Kind. Rewind. Coming out on February 22? awesome. Although usually Jack Black is not entertaining as much as he is annoying, this actually looks really ridiculously funny.

Wow stuff keeps popping up onto this post. So last night I just watched one of the most underrated movies ever. It was surprisingly good. What was the movie?
It was this:
"They have the looks... that kill." Maybe... but overall the movie was surprisingly PG.  No actual killing, no blood, and... no nudity.  Just a lot of swimsuits and "fighting". (By "fighting", I mean girls in very little clothes throwing each other around) Go check it out.

I guess that's it...

Lame end

Such a surprisingly short weekend...

So for all my AP physics buddies, I thought this was a nice little game where you can actually apply momentum and crap like that... It looks like this:
And that reminds me of this picture that I saw awhile ago...
Do ya see it? Their slogan is quite ironic, and the bolding makes it even more so.

Double post

Hopefully this double post will make up for my week-long break, though probably not.
I just had to post this up as the most annoying commercial in a long time. If you've watched any Tv today, you will have seen it, and definitely heard it.  I've heard this about every commercial break... and I'm honestly sick of it. Good thing that it is showing tonight, won't be seeing this again.

And I just found this out too... and you should try it.  Go to http://www.google.com/ and type in "find chuck norris" and click I'm feeling lucky.  What's google telling you? (Yes, obviously it's not actually google... just read the fine print on the bottom.)

So lazy...

So anyways,  here's a little something for you guys. (If that list wasn't interesting, this one is sure to freak you out.) Oh, and happy new year.
Tomorrow is Wear Yellow for Sharing day.  I'm not talking about the lame sharing that you're taught to do in kindergarten, I'm talking about the against the law type of sharing, which of course makes it so much cooler than regular sharing.
Check it out:
Got it at Costco.... Movie Night anyone?
And look what happened, apple turnover burn: day 2 of healing
Pretty gnarly eh? Oh well
